Logistics is key for the European economy, well-being and competitiveness in the global context. Europe plays a key role in the global logistics landscape and being transport and logistics a key asset to drive competitiveness. Only those economies that are mastering the transition of their transport operations to use renewable energy, making of digitalization, AI and automation the corner stone for competitiveness will succeed. Ensuring the economical dimension of sustainability in this transition for shippers and transportation companies is a must for innovation adoption at scale. Physical Internet is an integrative concept with growing global push. In this opening session, key stakeholders will share their views and approaches to competitiveness, reflecting on current situation and projecting the challenges and opportunities to be addressed by the end of this decade and beyond.

Europe is laying the digital rails for freight. The eFTI Regulation sets the legal backbone, Data Spaces turn compliance data into B2B value, and EDIC/BoostEDIC bring the cross-border governance and funding to scale what works. This session makes it crystal-clear what eFTI requires, what Data Spaces actually are, and how they speed up real-world implementation. If you move goods, build logistics tech, run a port or terminal, or work in a public authority, this is where you’ll learn what changes now and how to plug in. Come for practical answers, leave with next steps and contacts.

Urban logistics continues to evolve rapidly, emerging as a key driver of innovation in sustainable urban mobility. In 2024, the Expert Group on Urban Mobility – Subgroup 4 on Urban Logistics – published a set of forward-looking recommendations to guide cities, industry, and policymakers on 3 topics: Sustainable Urban Logistics Planning (SULP), Data Sharing, and Innovation Uptake.

One year later, this session takes stock:
  • What progress has been made? What concrete actions have been implemented?
  • What new trends, challenges, and best practices have emerged?
Bringing together practitioners, policymakers, and innovators, the session will reflect on the uptake of the recommendations and share insights from across Europe and beyond to inspire further action.
