[SEAMLESS Webinar] Safe and Intelligent Maritime Navigation Solutions for Short-sea and Inland waterway environments

Friday, March 6th, 2026

The webinar will explore the integration of rule-awareness, semantics and fault-tolerant control solutions (e.g., virtual sensors) in the Guidance, Navigation and Control (GNC) system of automated marine vessels.

The application of digital systems will  enable the seamless interoperability of vessels between short-sea and inland waterway environments, while significantly boosting the safety and resilience of navigation. For the certification of such advanced navigation systems, safety assurance processes will need  to consider digital alongside hardware systems, and their associated failure modes, risks and hazards. The redesign of established techniques for risk assessment, such as Hazard and Operability analysis (HAZOP) is crucial towards this goal.

By combining the control engineering, digital technologies, and safety assurance perspectives, the session aims to shed light on the future of safe inland and short-sea vessel operations and identify pathways for the development and certification of next-generation maritime navigation technologies.
