Urban freight produces an outsized share of cities’ transport-sector air pollution and, without more action, emissions from deliveries in urban centres could rise by 60% by 2030 (WEF). Fossil fuel trucks and vans making trips to and from dense urban areas are exacerbating the impacts of transport pollution on public health, increasing respiratory and cardiovascular diseases, especially among vulnerable populations.
As cities work to create cleaner, healthier, and more liveable urban neighbourhoods, the transition to zero-emission freight is becoming an urgent priority. In many cities there is a growing demand for land for urban logistics activity to support more housing and economic growth, yet space for freight is becoming increasingly scarce, expensive, and highly competitive with other high-value land users. The risk is that as logistics activity is pushed further and further out from city centres, this could potentially result in more and longer freight trips, leading to increased emissions and congestion.
This webinar will explore how cities and businesses can protect, preserve, and integrate valuable space to accelerate the adoption of zero-emission freight solutions and increase freight efficiency. Expect to hear case studies, innovative policies, and industry perspectives to address freight space challenges and opportunities.
