Transport Research Arena 2026: Call for papers

The Transport Research Arena (TRA), the largest transport research and innovation conference in Europe, initiated by the European Commission and various technology platforms will be held for the 11th time in Budapest, Hungary, on 18-21 May 2026 with the main theme “Re-Generation in Transport”. The TRA conference continues its legacy of bringing together leading minds in transport research and innovation. 

A platform for cutting-edge transport research 

TRA 2026 will focus on key areas shaping the future of transport, including: 

  • User centred mobility. Enhancing accessibility and inclusivity in transportation. 
  • Green mobility and decarbonisation. Driving efforts towards sustainability and emissions reduction. 
  • Planning and operation. Optimising transport systems for efficiency and resilience. 
  • Transport digitalisation. Leveraging technology and data-driven solutions for modern mobility. 

The conference serves as a vital bridge between academia, industry professionals, policymakers, and young researchers, fostering discussions that shape future transport solutions. Attendees will also experience live demonstrations, innovative exhibitions, technical tours, and social networking events. 

TRA Awards  

TRA goes beyond knowledge-sharing by celebrating excellence through the TRA Visions Awards. Researchers and innovators are encouraged to submit their work in the following categories: 

  • Young researcher competition. Integrated with the general submission process, young researchers can submit their papers along with supplementary materials such as research summaries, presentations, and recommendation letters. 
  • Senior researcher competition. Acknowledging outstanding contributions in European research projects. 
  • Special honorary award. Recognising an influential figure in the transport sector for their impact on research and innovation. 
  • Host award. Presented to the best paper aligned with TRA 2026’s main theme, “Re-Generation in Transport”. 

Paper submission guidelines 

Researchers are invited to submit their findings for peer review and presentation at the conference. Authors are invited to submit abstracts (max. 200 words), followed by full papers (max. 4000 words). Submissions will undergo peer review by experts and the local programme committee. Papers should outline research goals, methodology, results, and discussions, with only original contributions accepted. Accepted papers will be presented in oral or poster sessions, with a one-paper-per-presenter rule. Selected high-quality papers will be featured in the conference proceedings and recommended for publication in prestigious journals. 

Important dates: 

  1. Abstract submission (max. 200 words): Deadline 15th June 2025. 
  2. Full paper submission (max. 4000 words): Deadline 15th September 2025. 
  3. Notification of acceptance: 31st January 2026. 
  4. Final paper submission: 31st March 2026.
