Friday, June 13th, 2025
On 25 May 2025, the world’s first Physical Internet Shared Space was officially launched in Shanghai’s Hongqiao International Central Business District, marking a historic step forward in the global implementation of the Physical Internet. ALICE is pleased to witness and celebrate this important milestone.
The Shared Space, located within the new Physical Internet Alliance Building, is designed as a dedicated hub for cooperation among enterprises, research institutions, government representatives, and technology providers. It offers a platform to jointly develop and scale up open, standardised, and interoperable logistics networks aligned with Physical Internet principles. The launch was accompanied by a high-level salon, bringing together leading figures from China’s logistics, academic and policy communities.
ALICE commends the strong involvement of major stakeholders, including the China Federation of Logistics & Purchasing, which reaffirmed its commitment to supporting the Physical Internet as a strategic tool to reduce total logistics costs and enhance national supply chain resilience. Contributions from COSCO Shipping, WaterMirror Technology, and the Fraunhofer Institute for Material Flow and Logistics China further underscored the breadth of engagement across sectors.
As highlighted by Mr Liu Shihong, Secretary-General of the Physical Internet Alliance China, this progress is the result of collective effort- driven by real-world challenges, business demand, and shared ambition. The creation of this Shared Space reflects not only China’s rapid advancement in this field but also its openness to global exchange and cooperation.
ALICE is glad to cooperate with its Chinese counterparts and looks forward to deepening this partnership at the upcoming International Physical Internet Conference (IPIC 2025), taking place in Hong Kong from 17–20 June. A dedicated session on China’s Physical Internet developments will serve as a key opportunity to foster mutual learning and international alignment.
This achievement confirms that the Physical Internet is no longer a distant vision, it is already taking shape through concrete actions, infrastructure, and collaboration. ALICE remains fully committed to supporting the global rollout of the Physical Internet through strategic dialogue, multi-stakeholder engagement, and innovation leadership.
