RISE-SME project at ALICE Innovation Village

Resilient Industry Supply Chain Enhancement for SMEs

Programme: Horizon Europe
Duration: January 2024 – December 2026 (36 months)
Budget: €2+ million
Consortium: 10 partners from 5 countries

Project overview

RISE-SME is a Horizon Europe project focused on strengthening the resilience of supply chains for small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs). The project aims to support SMEs in identifying risks, adapting to disruptions, and adopting advanced technologies to enhance their competitiveness.

By combining risk analysis, modelling approaches, and technology scouting, RISE-SME develops practical tools and strategies to help SMEs better anticipate and respond to supply chain disruptions.

Objectives

RISE-SME is structured around four main objectives:

Objective 1 – Identifying disruptions
Identify critical current and future disruptions affecting supply chains across industrial ecosystems, analysing risks, dependencies, and vulnerabilities.

Objective 2 – Building resilience models
Develop quantitative and methodological models to support resilient supply chain design and decision-making.

Objective 3 – Technology adoption
Promote the uptake of advanced technologies by SMEs, identifying critical technologies and alternative providers while assessing their impact and risks.

Objective 4 – Ecosystem collaboration
Strengthen collaboration between traditional and tech-driven SMEs, fostering alliances and enabling knowledge transfer within industrial ecosystems.

What the project does

RISE-SME develops a comprehensive framework to improve supply chain resilience by:

  • Analysing industrial ecosystems through literature review and industry consultation
  • Identifying causal relationships between disruptions and risks
  • Developing risk-driven supply chain models per ecosystem
  • Applying quantitative methods such as simulation and optimisation
  • Mapping and assessing advanced technologies
  • Supporting SMEs in evaluating readiness, responsiveness, and recovery capabilities

Expected results

RISE-SME will deliver:

  • Risk-driven supply chain models for each ecosystem
  • Quantitative tools to assess resilience
  • Mapping of advanced technologies and their applications
  • Identification of critical dependencies, risks, and disruptions
  • Recommendations for improving supply chain configurations
  • New alliance models for collaborative ecosystems

These results will support SMEs in improving their ability to anticipate, absorb, and recover from disruptions.
