[TG3 – AI & DT Webinar series #3] Operational Excellence in Logistics: supporting decisions through AI and digital twins

Thursday, May 29th, 2025

Dear Members of ALICE Thematic Group 3: Systems & Technologies for Interconnected Logistics,

We are pleased to invite ALICE members to join the upcoming webinar “Operational Excellence in Logistics: supporting decisions through AI and digital twins” on 24th June, from 11:00 to 12:00 CET.

In today’s complex logistics ecosystems, efficiency hinges on the ability to make informed decisions across multiple time horizons—from strategic planning to real-time execution. This session explores how advanced AI techniques, digital twins, and optimization models are transforming both long-term planning and daily operational decisions in sectors such as Logistics and Waste Management.

Participants will discover how digital twin architectures and mathematical modelling have supported strategic challenges like waste flow planning and customer allocation in LPG distribution, as well as operational improvements including optimized load building in CPG logistics and smarter dispatch assignments in car carrier transport. These innovations demonstrate how AI can balance scenario complexity, data variability, and execution constraints to drive measurable impact.

The webinar highlights a transversal approach that integrates data science, consultancy, and software engineering to co-design scalable solutions with both industrial and academic partners. Attendees will gain valuable insights into how such a cross-disciplinary methodology fosters innovation and enables agile decision-making in real-world logistics environments. Join us to learn how AI-driven optimization is reshaping logistics planning and execution across the board.
