Mobility Data Space joins ALICE to advance sovereign data sharing in European logistics
Monday, June 22nd, 2026
ALICE is pleased to welcome Mobility Data Space as a new member, strengthening the community’s expertise in data sharing, interoperability and digital transformation across mobility and logistics.
The Mobility Data Space (MDS) is a data ecosystem that enables organisations to exchange mobility-related data on their own terms, supporting the development of innovative, user-centric and environmentally sustainable mobility services. Operated by the non-profit organisation DRM Datenraum Mobilität GmbH and funded by the German Federal Ministry of Transport (BMV), the initiative brings together public and private stakeholders to create a trusted environment for sovereign data exchange. Its shareholders include major industry players such as BMW, Deutsche Bahn, DHL Group and Mercedes-Benz.
The Mobility Data Space originated from a 2019 resolution of the Concerted Action Mobility (KAM) of the German Federal Government, with more than 200 stakeholders from industry, science and public administration contributing to its development. Built on principles of sovereign and interoperable data sharing, and based on the International Data Spaces Association (IDSA) Reference Architecture Model, the ecosystem enables organisations to retain full control over their data while participating in trusted data exchange. Through its data catalogue, operational services and growing community, MDS supports the development of interoperable data-driven solutions across the mobility sector.
The Mobility Data Space is actively involved in fostering collaboration between organisations, enabling new data-driven applications, business models and services. Through its network, members can access expertise, practical services and opportunities to develop innovative use cases across mobility, logistics and related sectors.
By joining ALICE, the Mobility Data Space aims to align regulatory frameworks such as eFTI with sovereign data space architectures and collaborate with ALICE members on operational use cases across maritime, road and rail logistics. As an already operational data space, MDS offers ALICE members a ready-to-use decentralised infrastructure for testing new use cases, developing collaborative projects and supporting innovation initiatives. These activities will help demonstrate the value of decentralised data governance and support the convergence of eFTI, eCMR and data spaces within the European logistics ecosystem.
