ITENE Joins ALICE to Strengthen Innovation in Sustainable Packaging, Logistics, and Digital Transformation

Tuesday, August 12th, 2025

ALICE is pleased to welcome ITENE, a Spanish research centre focused on generating knowledge and developing innovative solutions in four main areas: sustainable materials and technologies for the circular economy; design, safety and functionality in packaging; chemical exposure and air quality monitoring; and logistics and digital transformation, harnessing cutting-edge technologies such as AI and IoT to drive efficiency, resilience and sustainability. Established in 1994 as a private non-profit association, ITENE is recognised as a key research and technology organisation in Spain and across Europe, supporting both public and private stakeholders in their transition toward safer, more sustainable supply chains.

As an active member of ALICE, ITENE contributes directly to the platform’s roadmaps on Urban Freight, Digitalisation, and Zero-Emission Logistics. The centre’s work includes the development of smart packaging solutions, transport traceability systems, and sustainable last-mile logistics. Through its participation in European R&I projects such as NOVAFOODIES and SEEDS, ITENE advances innovation in logistics route optimisation, food supply chains, and packaging functionalities- all critical elements in building more resilient and climate-neutral transport systems.

ITENE is particularly interested in collaborating with ALICE members on R&D projects, technology validation, and exchange of best practices. The centre is actively engaged in the Urban Logistics and Digitalisation Thematic Groups, where its technical expertise and applied research experience add value to multi-stakeholder initiatives across Europe.

Beyond its contributions to logistics, ITENE delivers solutions in sustainable materials, air quality monitoring, and risk assessment, while also upholding strong values around equality, inclusion, and environmental responsibility. With a workforce of over 200 professionals, including more than 120 R&I experts, and a facility of over 12,000 m², including laboratories and pilot plants, ITENE combines scientific excellence with real-world impact.

Through ALICE, ITENE aims to scale up collaboration across the logistics ecosystem and support the co-creation of data-driven, low-emission solutions that align with European Green Deal goals. We welcome ITENE to the ALICE network and look forward to working together to accelerate sustainable innovation in logistics and mobility.
