H.Essers joins ALICE to drive synchromodal, secure and sustainable logistics in Europe

Tuesday, March 3rd, 2026

ALICE welcomes H.Essers, a family-owned logistics company with a strong European footprint and a long tradition of entrepreneurial growth. Founded in 1928 in Genk, Belgium, H.Essers has grown over three generations into one of Europe’s leading transport and logistics service providers, serving a broad range of regulated and complex industries including chemicals (ADR), healthcare, food & feed, FMCG and retail, high-value goods, automotive, machinery and infrastructure.

Today, H.Essers employs more than 7,500 people across 86 locations in 21 countries and reported a turnover of 1.1 billion euros in 2024. Its asset-based strategy, with in-house management of fleet, warehouses and IT systems, provides end-to-end control over supply chains and enables tailored solutions for complex logistics flows.

H.Essers is a pioneer in synchromodal transport, combining road, rail, sea and inland waterways dynamically to offer flexible, efficient and lower-carbon transport solutions. Multimodal hubs, a large truck fleet and rail and barge connections across Europe are coordinated via a 24/7 control tower that oversees cargo flows, manages incidents and optimises routing. Innovative assets such as the Safebox – a highly secured, TAPA TSR1-certified intermodal container – support secure, compliant transport of high-value.
Reefer units allow to provide temperature-controlled transport, backed up with on-site developed power wagons for Synchromodal shipments.

In parallel, H.Essers continues to expand its intermodal rail solutions beyond Europe. This includes a China-Europe rail setup for both ambient and temperature-controlled cargo, offering an intermodal door-to-door service for FCL volumes, providing shippers with a reliable and competitive alternative for long-distance flows. Within Europe, the company is also actively developing a new intermodal rail connection between Romania and Poland, strengthening north-south corridors and supporting modal shift for complex and temperature-controlled logistics.

The company offers an integrated logistics portfolio, including warehousing, transport and a wide range of value-added services. Its multi-client megasites and Seveso facilities across Europe specialise in dangerous goods storage, temperature-controlled logistics, healthcare and  food&feed, high value goods and retail logistics, supported by robust systems, a strong safety culture and certified compliance with GDP, GMP, IFS, BRC and TAPA TSR1 standards. Additional services include filling and drumming, bagging and debagging, relabelling, passive packaging, sampling and assembly.

Sustainability is embedded in H.Essers’ strategy. The company pursues carbon-neutral warehousing, invests in energy-efficient infrastructure and green energy production, and promotes modal shift, eco-driving and the use of alternative fuels. In 2024, H.Essers covered 3 billion tonne-kilometres by road, rail and water, handled over 5.8 million tonnes of goods and 11.5 million pallets, and produced 44 GWh of green energy. Its sustainability framework is built around clear ambitions and material topics, with progress reported annually.

H.Essers’ work is guided by five corporate values – reliability, caring, positivism, simplicity and entrepreneurship – which underpin long-term partnerships with customers, employees and stakeholders.

By joining ALICE, H.Essers aims to collaborate on synchromodality, decarbonisation, secure and compliant logistics, and innovation in end-to-end supply chain solutions, supporting the transition toward more sustainable and resilient European logistics networks.
