Ghent University joins ALICE to expand collaboration in logistics and mobility innovation

ALICE is pleased to welcome Ghent University (UGent) as a new member. UGent is a leading Belgian university with over 45,000 students and 15,500 employees, known for its global perspective and dedication to critical thinking, openness, and social engagement. Its credo, “Dare to Think”, reflects a commitment to curiosity, boldness, and interdisciplinary collaboration. 

Founded over 200 years ago, UGent offers more than 200 academic programmes and conducts research across a wide range of scientific disciplines. The university is deeply embedded in society, encouraging its students and researchers to engage with real-world challenges. UGent promotes high-risk, high-impact research and values not just scholarly output, but also collaboration, relevance, and societal contribution. 

UGent has a strong track record in urban mobility, logistics, and supply chain research. The university applies data-driven modelling, artificial intelligence, and optimisation to topics such as network and service design, emergency logistics, innovative air mobility, and multimodal transport planning. With participation in over 100 projects, UGent brings interdisciplinary expertise and experience in working with a wide range of stakeholders. 

As a core partner of EIT Urban Mobility and Flanders Make, UGent offers access to advanced research facilities, including the MOVE platform for decision support, a digital twin control room, and the SAAL near-industrial warehousing lab. 

UGent looks forward to collaborating with ALICE network partners through Horizon Europe, Driving Urban Transitions, Interreg, and other initiatives, also including joint theses and industry-funded academic chairs.
