[Webinar] Electrified Road Systems – State-of-the-art and Path Forward

Thursday, May 8th, 2025

We are pleased to officially invite you to an exciting upcoming webinar on Electrified Road Systems (ERS), jointly organized by TU Delft and ALICE. This session will provide a high-level overview of the state of the art in ERS and explore the road ahead toward implementation and scale-up.

Electrified Road Systems are a transformative solution for decarbonizing road transport, particularly for heavy-duty freight. Through technologies such as overhead catenary systems, conductive rails, and wireless inductive charging, ERS enables electric vehicles to charge dynamically while driving, potentially revolutionizing long-haul logistics by improving energy efficiency, reducing battery size requirements, and minimizing charging downtime.

This interactive webinar will spotlight the latest scientific insights, pilot experiences from Sweden, Germany, and the UK, and the evolving policy landscape, including how ERS aligns with the AFIR decision-making process. Your voice will be key to shaping the discussion on how ERS can integrate into broader decarbonization strategies across Europe.

PRELIMINARY AGENDA

  • Introduction – general framing, questionnaire results – Fernando Liesa (ALICE) & Lori Tavasszy (TU Delft)
  • Expected impacts based on science and pilots
  • Voice of logistics sector –  Ted Zotos (IRU)
  • Decision making process –  AFIR – Hakan Sundelin (Electreon)
  • Open discussion – Moderated by Fernando Liesa (ALICE& Lori Tavasszy (TU Delft)
    • Who benefits vs where is decision making
    • How to scale up (dynamic and stationary)
    • Actions needed (who and what) towards AFIR recalibration
  • Clossure of the webinar –  Fernando Liesa (ALICE)
