eFTI4ALL supports the digital transformation of European logistics by helping turn the electronic Freight Transport Information (eFTI) Regulation into operational reality across the European Union.
Funded by the Connecting Europe Facility (CEF) programme of the European Commission under Project 101175974 – 23-EU-TG-eFTI4ALL, the project contributes to the shift from paper-based freight documentation to secure, standardised and interoperable electronic information exchange between economic operators and competent authorities.
Efficient freight transport and logistics are essential to the competitiveness of the EU economy, the functioning of the internal market, and cohesion across regions. Yet freight information is still often exchanged through fragmented and incompatible IT solutions, which means paper documents remain widely used in daily operations. This creates unnecessary administrative burden, slows down checks and inspections, and reduces efficiency across the logistics chain.
The eFTI Regulation (EU) 2020/1056 aims to address this by establishing a legal framework for the electronic exchange of freight transport information across road, rail, maritime and air transport. By enabling authorities to access regulatory information in digital format, the regulation is expected to improve efficiency, reduce paperwork, and support a more modern and connected European transport system.
Building on the earlier eFTI4EU project, eFTI4ALL brings in additional Member States and economic operators to further support implementation of the regulation. The project develops and tests the eFTI data exchange environment, including both eFTI Gates and eFTI Platforms, explores new use cases such as dangerous goods and multimodal transport, and investigates interoperability between systems. In this way, it contributes to a more integrated and streamlined electronic freight transport system across Europe.
The core ambition of eFTI4ALL is to move from regulatory adoption to real implementation.
The project supports five additional EU Member States – Sweden, Denmark, Malta, Luxembourg and Greece, in implementing the eFTI Regulation, while also involving Poland to promote its uptake there. By bringing together public authorities, technology providers and logistics stakeholders, the project helps create the practical conditions needed for digital freight information exchange to work across borders and across modes.
This includes not only technical deployment, but also testing in real operational settings, helping ensure that the eFTI framework is useful for authorities and workable for economic operators.
The project focuses on four main objectives:
Together, these activities help create the foundations for a harmonised digital freight information ecosystem across the EU.
A key part of the project is the involvement of platform providers developing practical digital solutions for freight information exchange.
ABONA is developing a scalable eFTI platform that makes digital freight data accessible for companies of all sizes. Its web-based solution supports road and multimodal transport, integrates eCMR, and enables standardised data exchange both business-to-business and business-to-authority. The platform is designed as an accessible entry point into compliant digital logistics for organisations ranging from small operators to large companies.
GBK Trusted Partner specialises in digital documents for the transport of dangerous goods. The company brings expertise in secure and compliant regulatory data exchange and is particularly relevant for use cases involving hazardous cargo. Its contribution strengthens the project’s work on specialised freight segments where data quality and regulatory compliance are especially important.
Within eFTI4ALL, Pionira is positioned as a European e-document provider preparing to operate as a certified eFTI platform. Its platform is designed to enable secure, standardised and traceable digital exchange of transport and logistics information, fully aligned with EU eFTI requirements. Pionira contributes to the development of interoperable solutions connecting economic operators and authorities across Europe.
Vedia has been involved in eFTI development from the beginning, and its platform was the first to be tested with a national gate. Within the project, Vedia supports a modular system architecture using tributary systems and services such as eCMR and electronic queue management. The platform also offers added-value services, including sustainability and freight flow dashboards for terminals and hubs.
An eFTI platform is a digital solution that enables economic operators, such as carriers, shippers and freight forwarders, to exchange regulatory freight transport information with competent authorities in a secure and standardised electronic format.
Instead of relying on paper documents, operators can upload data such as consignment notes or dangerous goods declarations into the platform, either directly or through machine-to-machine connections with existing ICT systems. The platform then structures the information according to EU eFTI standards, validates and stores it securely, and makes it available to competent authorities through an eFTI gate.
For competent authorities, this means faster and more reliable access to accurate transport information, supporting more efficient inspections, better risk assessment and stronger enforcement.
For economic operators, eFTI platforms reduce paperwork, manual handling and administrative costs, while improving compliance, traceability and data quality. They also support smoother multimodal operations and better cross-border information exchange.
More broadly, eFTI platforms create the basis for a harmonised and interoperable digital freight information environment across Europe.
