CALSTART Drive to Zero accelerates the global shift to zero-emission commercial vehicles through strategic partnerships, policy leadership, capacity building and cutting-edge tools. Targeting trucks and buses, Drive to Zero connects governments, industry, and financiers to fast-track the adoption of clean technologies and infrastructure.
Anchored in the Global Memorandum of Understanding on Zero-Emission Medium- and Heavy-Duty Vehicles (Global MOU), co-led by Colombia, Drive to Zero is advancing one of the world’s most ambitious transport decarbonization efforts. The Global MOU commits signatory nations to achieve 30% new ZE-MHDV sales by 2030 and 100% by 2040.
Signed by 40 nations and more than 270 endorsers, including fleets, infrastructure providers, NGOs, investors, and leading enterprises. This community is accelerating the shift to zero-emission transport to foster sustainable economic growth and create future-proof jobs. It also helps to meet 2050 net-zero targets, cut air pollution, and prevent the severe health impacts of diesel emissions-currently linked to over 330,000 premature deaths annually. Drive to Zero works to scale the ZE-MHDV transition by aligning government and industry commitments with the Global MOU and translating those commitments into concrete policy, investment, and infrastructure actions. Through collaboration with policymakers, investors, and the broader industry ecosystem, Drive to Zero helps ensure that ambition is matched by implementation.
In January 2025, CALSTART Drive to Zero established and an independent non-profit foundation working to accelerate the adoption of zero-emission medium- and heavy-duty vehicles (ZE-MHDVs) across Europe. It The European foundation builds on longstanding collaboration with European governments, businesses, and knowledge partners to strengthen networks, unlock new opportunities for emission reductions, and scale up climate action.
