Call for Physical Internet Ambassadors: join the movement to scale and expand the Physical Internet

ALICE enables the IKIGAI project in its call for PI Ambassadors, a unique opportunity to join a global community of distinguished individuals having dedicated part of their career in accelerating the adoption of the Physical Internet (PI) to deliver a decarbonised freight transport and logistics for a competitive and resilient Europe.

Who is a PI Ambassador?

A PI Ambassadors is recognised professional who strongly contributed to the Physical Internet adoption as leverage for freight transport and logistics decarbonization by 2050. As trustworthy promoter of the Physical Internet vision, he/her acted as bridge between applied research and real world practice, inspiring the alignment to standards, policies and funding research and innovation programmes with logistics innovation, boosting the realisation of twin transition.

A PI Ambassador, is expected to contribute in one or more of these scopes:

Share knowledge and understanding of the Physical Internet with their own ecosystem and networks.
Share implementation cases and best practices in PI adoption for twin transition.
Promote the standard processes and protocols that will expand compliancy to the PI Norm and encourage their adoption across industries.
Engage with peers and other PI Ambassadors and their networks of global, European, country and regional supply chain, logistics and freight transport innovation leaders.
Activate multiplier effect of the IKIGAI outputs and of broader Physical Internet initiatives.
Support the establishment and enlargement of the PI coalition.
Inspire and guide all societal streams, including new generation and young researchers, innovators and talents, industrial players and policy makers raising awareness improving PI and zero emissions logistics abilities.

PI Ambassadors are expected to have a meaningful role having proved influence in generating impact.

Why become a PI Ambassador?

Becoming a PI Ambassador connect with a dynamic, forward-looking community of peers, i.e. other PI Ambassadors and the IKIGAI project consortium, composed of top global companies, distinguished researchers and innovators, EU networks such as Smart Freight Center, Open Logistics Foundation, International Data Space Association, GS1, POLIS and ALICE. These broader network of excellence in shaping and co-creating the the future of logistics.

A PI Ambassador, will:

Expand visibility within the European and global logistics and supply chain innovation ecosystem.
Get privileged access to IKIGAI findings and outputs, to leasing innovations, and to the PI observatory best practices.
Be invited to speak at major events, contribute to policy, regulatory and industrial debate.
Be part of a vibrant, action-oriented community shaping the future of logistics.
Participate in selecting future PI Builders and other PI related awards that are honoured at the annual IPIC conference and the ALICE Logistics Innovation Summits.
Support their organisation to be positioned at the forefront of the logistics industry innovation ecosystem.

Eligibility criteria

We welcome applications from individual who have been already recognized and awarded by the International Physical Internet Conference (IPIC) community e.g. PI Pioneers, PI Builders, PI start-ups, PI venture awards or any other PI related award.

While many ambassadors may already be involved in IKIGAI or the broader PI community, new perspectives are particularly welcome.

We welcome applications from recognized professionals that have been awarded for their career and action in the field of logistics innovation, decarbonization or digitalization.

There are no restrictions based on geography, affiliation, gender or sector.

Application process

The call is open throughout the duration of the IKIGAI project to start with. The first cut-off date to review the first applications and kick-off the activities is the 31 August 2025 at 17:00 CET.

All interested individuals are requested to fill in the PI Ambassadors application form, to propose actions and contributions, with motivational purpose.

Applicants that will be selected should provide a clear evidence of track record in promoting or implementing PI-related concepts and solutions.

If appropriate, endorsements letters from at least two IKIGAI partners may strengthen an application.

Being PI Ambassador is free of charge and at the same time, it does not provide you any financial support to deliver your role.

About IKIGAI

IKIGAI is a Horizon Europe initiative supporting the realisation of the Physical Internet by 2040 and zero-emission freight transport by 2050 that runs from July 2025 to December 2028. The project focuses on scaling up key Logistics Innovations (LIs) through affordable, collaborative and standardised solutions, starting with five LIs that will serve as the playground to develop supporting mechanisms and tools to be exploited beyond the project duration by the PI Coalition sponsored by ALICE.

IKIGAI supports the twin transition of the logistics sector by combining digital transformation with the shift to environmentally sustainable solutions supporting the European Competitiveness and Resilience. It aligns with the UN 2030 Agenda and the Sustainable Development Goals and delivers two major frameworks:

The PI Norm: a set of standardised processes and respective procedures aimed at enhancing collaboration and logistics efficiency, facilitating the decarbonisation of freight transport.
The Twin Transition Genome is a Roadmap that integrates collaborative logistics and freight decarbonisation strategies. It harmonises the ALICE Roadmap for Zero Emissions Logistics (2019) with the PI Roadmap (2020), two consensus-built documents by the logistics sector and integrate new challenges and opportunities in a single vison and roadmap (the Genome) to guide the co-creation of the future of logistics.
