ALICE<\/a>\u00a0<\/strong>(logistics), POLIS<\/a>\u00a0<\/strong>(Cities) and\u00a0 EPA\u00a0<\/a><\/strong>(Parking) are exploring the opportunities to improve parking management and urban logistics delivery spaces with the support of FIT Consulting and Erasmus University Rotterdam. These associations are looking into the potential of access management integrated with flexible and shared use of urban space and parking.<\/p>\n

Changes in consumer behaviour, new e-commerce services, instant deliveries, and the COVID-19 pandemic, along with traditional freight movements, are making last-mile deliveries booming. This implies pressure on the system due to the lack of available and appropriate space for these operations. Innovative measures are needed to help cities reduce congestion (double parking, etc.) and trips, achieve sustainable mobility goals, improve deliveries efficiency, anticipate new technologies, and potentially increase revenues.<\/p>\n

One new concept is the so-called\u00a0\u2018Shared-Use Mixed Zones\u2019\u00a0(SUM Zones).<\/strong> SUM zones can be defined as areas where parking management, urban vehicle access regulations and freight management are integrated, and combined with flexible curbside management concepts.<\/p>\n

On 17 December (14:00-16:00)<\/strong>, we are meeting for a two-hour session<\/strong> to:<\/p>\n

    \n
  1. discuss current experiences with zonal management of public space,<\/li>\n
  2. introduce the SUM zone vision, and<\/li>\n
  3. assess what is needed to make this integrated approach into reality in the decade to come.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n

    Moreover, the associations, supported by UITP<\/strong><\/a> (public transport), are launching a survey<\/strong> to collect some information that could help steer the discussion.<\/p>\n

    This survey will take only\u00a05 minutes<\/strong>\u00a0of your time and is\u00a0accessible at this link<\/strong><\/a>.<\/p>\n

    The results will be presented and discussed during the meeting.<\/p>\n
